About the Artist: Jenny Bowes Meyer

Jenny Bowes Meyer is a local artist from Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa.  Born in the Karoo town of Graaff Reinet, Jenny studied Art and Design at the Port Elizabeth Technikon (now the Nelson Mandela University Port Elizabeth).  After qualifying as a Textile Designer and working in the printing industry in East London for 4 years, Jenny returned to study further and was awarded the National Higher Diploma in Art and Design with distinction. Amongst her achievements in her career, are the Da Gama Design award (1974), voted a finalist in a national design competition in 1981 and held the position of Senior Lecturer in Textile Design until end of 1985 at the PE Technikon and  then the National Examiner and Moderator until 1993.

Jenny’s serious painting career began in 1991 under Tertia Knaap at the St Luke’s School of Art in Onrus River.  Her debut solo exhibition in Hermanus in 1996 was an enormous success.  One of her paintings brought her a prestigious accolade in the United Kingdom. Various group exhibitions have entrenched her in the local art scene and the popularity of her vibrant works increases daily. Collectors and galleries of note both locally and abroad have gone to considerable effort to seek her works.  Although the Old Harbour is her specialty, Jenny enjoys painting still life compositions and scenes of the Overberg.

Her works are available for purchase.
